Night Dune by BenDiAnna Night Dune by BenDiAnna
Pismo Dunes, Oceano CA

It was a dark night with no moon. I used a large flashlight to paint both sides of the dune on a 2.5 min exposure. The sky was overcast that night and I was really hoping for stars, it left something to be desired in this photo, so I added the sky from another shot I took (so yes this is a composite).

I like this particularly because of the combination of colors of sky and sand. I like the shadowing of the texture of the sand as well. Good job.

Thanks! :D It took many attempts before I got the lighting just right.

Nice shot, but I think this could have been better if the stars weren't streaking across the sky.
Maybe one long exposure to paint the dune, then a short 30 second exposure at about 800 iso to capture the stars.
Then just blend the images together :)

Other then that I love the idea of this shot, and the dune is perfectly lit and completely awesome looking!

Thanks man! It doesn't really bother me to be honest, but you got a point. I wanted the lighting on the dune just right, which took many attempts, I didn't really think about the stars. If I thought of it while I was out there I probably would have done that, but hindsight you know; I'll try it next time.
I was also concerned with how I would find my way back since I was technically lost haha :) Thank god I glimpsed a flashlight in the right direction.
Thanks for the input buddy, Cheers!
