Bisti Badlands by BenDiAnna Bisti Badlands by BenDiAnna
Taken in the Bisti Wilderness, New Mexico at sunset.
36.277268,-108.2605

*EDIT* 12-13-2011- I decided to re-edit this photo from scratch as there were many errors in the last one.

This was such a beautiful and fascinating spot we found in New Mexico. The Bisti Badlands is a "scenic and colorful expanse of undulating mounds and unusual eroded rocks" located along highway 371 in quite literally the middle of nowhere. It's so far from anywhere that the silence is almost absolute and a little eerie.
If you ever have a chance to check it out I strongly suggest it.

The view is amazing. The clarity of the shot is good and the color range is impressive.

The light is good and looks close to a HDR. I will suggest this as DD.

Keep up! :D

Wonderful image. I found it on this page [link] and traced it to you through www.tineye.com. It seems quite popular since tineye shows it appearing on other pages as well.

HA! It's somehow funny to see one of my images show up in random places. I'll have to check out tineye and see where else it is out of curiosity. :D

I can't decide if it's funny or not. I used to think of it as a huge compliment that people liked it enough to spread around but then...

a DA friend posted a journal showing how one of her shots had been pirated, cropped and submitted to a contest for Levi jeans. It became their new worldwide ad campaign and she got nothing from it whereas the person that entered it into the contest made out quite well. She was also told that Levi was under no obligation to her because they had received it legitimately and she would have to go after the person that had submitted it. They would not however give her the information she needed to do that and she couldn't afford the legal fees. That wasn't funny!

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. Seeing my image on someone's facebook is a world of difference than seeing someone making money off of it. I do keep an eye open to that and thankfully I haven't see it with my work.
I have been contacted by people wanting to use one of my images and I usually ask them to right a simple contract saying exactly what they want to use the image for and nothing else, and then I don't hear back. Maybe they gave up or maybe they used it anyway, can't really know... It's just the nature of the internet to take and not pay or give credit.

People can be so complicated! I'm glad no one's done you wrong but that's just weird that they wouldn't follow through if you were willing to let them use your work. I still think that credit should be given when you're posting someone else's work, whether or not its something like facebook.

I used to live in AZ, and had seen a few pics of this place since before that. You've convinced me....next time I go back to the SW, I'm going to include this spot on my itinerary.

I'm glad to hear it! The place is defiantly worth a visit despite a long un-scenic drive to get there. I only got to stay a few hours and it became the highlight of a week long road trip! :D

Wow, incredible! Which part of NM is this? North, south.... etc? I'm planning a road trip there in the new few years and I'd love to visit this place. You've captured it beautifully!

This is Northwestern NM off State Highway 371. The Bisti Badlands is definitely worth a stop, I only got to see about .01% of the place; exploration is almost infinite there. Do a little research online (something I didn't do).
Here are the exact coordinates for where this picture was taken: 36.277268,-108.2605
Enter that into Google Maps; I'm about 99% sure thats the correct spot.

Thank you! Good luck with your trip! Grants is also an amazing city that is diverse in what it offers in scenery (sandstone, aches, pine forests, extinct volcanoes, even a Wolf Sanctuary!) :)
